System Components

The U-Scan Shopper™ system consists of a computer device with a 6.4 inch full color monitor permanently mounted to a shopping cart handle. The system interacts via wireless technology with trigger units strategically placed at product locations throughout a store. As a customer approaches a specific product, the device sounds a chime and the ad or promotion for that product appears on the monitor.

Each wireless device is linked via the internet to Klever’s hosting application. This application enables retailers, manufacturers and third-party service providers to communicate with shoppers using constantly updated content.

The unit is also equipped with a CCD bar code scanner (digital imager) providing customers with scan-as-you-shop convenience. This feature greatly extends the reach of the system to virtually all products in the store, not just those featured on the trigger units. This scanning capability also enables customers to check items off their shopping list, keep a running total of their tab, and avoid long lines at the front of the store by scanning items as they shop. Fujitsu has already integrated the U-Scan Shopper™ to its U-Scan Self Check Out¹ POS system allowing a customer to check themselves out in an aisle while shopping and to pay at the automated station, never having to wait in checkout lines or deal with store clerks.

Other features of the Klever device include system-generated shopping lists based on each individual consumer’s prior history of product purchases, a store directory, a product locator, food nutritional information, seasonal promotions, electronic coupons, news items, recipes, local weather, and the ability for customers to order pharmacy and deli items which alert when ready for pickup.
